I made it out late last night for a short and easy jog of my standard 4S Ranch 5K loop; so nice and cool, especially in the midst of our late summer heat spell. I had spent an hour before stretching and doing some of the back exercises I read about earlier...all while getting wrapped up in "Rudy"...for the umpteenth time. Man, I'm a sucker for that story; so corny if it weren't true (for the most part).
I've got my physical today, so I'm fasting. The urge to eat breakfast is strong. The appointment's at 9:30, but they probably won't draw blood until 10 or later. I am a little bit anxious to get the cholesterol results. If the past 8 weeks doesn't show an impact, I'm afraid the next recourse is going to be statins. And I don't want that. I really don't think there's much more I can do, holistically, to get my cholesterol down.
Since I'm approaching 50, have a family history of heart disease and expect my cholesterol to at least be borderline, I'm hoping this year the physician will order a calcium score screening. I'd like to know the state of my arteries. I should final get that ultrasound done for the aneurysm susceptibility I may have, since that's yet another hereditary gem I harbor. I just don't want to be the next Jim Fixx.
Joan's caught the flu or something. She's staying home. Bailey has school orientation today. Quin's on his last days of an idle summer. Reminder: we need to do push ups and sit ups this evening. Don't let me forget (assuming my back is ready for it).
Today's workout plan is 10 x 220 intervals and maybe half of the spin class if I can manage the time. Running takes priority if time is short.
