It was good to meet some fellow "Spark People" in Real Life, though I felt a little funny about leaving them behind a mile or so into the run. I looped back to RB High School to try to find some water, and probably should have socialized a little bit more, but I was starting to worry about running out of light with 3 miles still to go to get home.
I felt a little like Dean Karnazes, jogging around Carmel Mountain Ranch and 4S Ranch like it was a natural mode of transportation. I wound up running up to the corner of the shopping center, though, instead of home, because I needed some water. I didn't feel too bad, but I'd gone 8 miles without drinking. Can you believe the water fountains at the high school don't work? None of them.
I bummed water off of the Shell station there, and Joan met me on her way from picking up Bailey at SPAC, so I didn't have to navigate my way back home. Still, it was a total of 10 miles, and I felt like I could have kept on going. I didn't plan on it, but I didn't really watch the clock. That's pretty unusual for me. Maybe because I was more fixated on the social element of today's run, but I never set my stop watch and only know approximately how long I ran. There was some standing around, like when I made introductions with Leah and Kelly and when I was roaming the grounds of RBHS in search of a water fountain. But overall, I estimate I ran for 90 minutes. I feel like I held a good sub-8 minute pace along Benardo Heights Pkwy and Pomerado Rd. And the trip from home to RBHS was kind of fast paced because I was worried about meeting the women on time. Other than that, I kept a pretty disciplined pace and I think that explained the strength of the session.
Today is a light day. I've not been doing any weight training at all. I need to get back in the gym and do some strength work. I've been so fixated on running, I'm ignoring the cross training. When was the last time I swam?
I'm anxious to tackle the weekend long run and regain my confidence. I feel it building. Time to peak.
