Blistered Toes

A couple of weeks ago I noticed my toes were looking pretty gnarly.  I had odd-looking water blisters on the sides of some toes, peeling skin from the tips of others, and one ugly what-looked-like a blood blister on the bottom of another.  None of them hurt or were giving me problems.  They just looked nasty.

Today, I looked them over and the blisters are diminishing. I'm not entirely sure what the deal was.  It may have been the increase in mileage that put some pressure on the toes.  I'm pretty sure my shoes aren't the problem.  It's probably just the increased pounding and wet socks that had the toes rubbing against each other, stretching the skin.  No pain, and I avoided trying to drain or relieve problems that didn't exist, and now it looks as though things are starting to resolve on their own.

It helps that I didn't run for a second day in a row, even though that wasn't the plan.  Saturday was a scheduled rest day but Sunday was supposed to have been an easy run of 8 or 9 miles.  I waited too long, suffering through the Chargers' loss to the Jets and then enjoying Duke's romp over Wake Forest.  Then I had to wait a while while the greasy, fatty faux Mexican food I'd eaten during the games settled down.  That took a lot longer than I anticipated, and by the time I felt ready to run, it was late and starting to rain.  So that dictated a second, unscheduled rest day.

That's alright.  I've put the training in.  I'm supposed to begin leveling off and getting fresh for the race next weekend.  The weather's looking sketchy with a couple of winter storms rolling in, but here's hoping they'll clear out before the weekend and Sunday morning dawns with clear skies and no winds.
