First Mile Swim in Forever

Supposed to be a no-run day, but I sneaked in a couple of miles on the treadmill because I wanted to verify the distance calibration of the Nike+.  Just as on my Sunday run, it's ticking off the distance more quickly than it should, which I interpret as having my stride length too long (since it thinks I'm covering greater distance per stride).  So I tried a recalibration run again, this time 1/2 mile on the treadmill, at a speed of 7.5 (8-minutes/mile).  I may have to do it again since I was kind of hurried and may not have been careful enough.

The main workout, though, was a mile swim.  I did a 250 warmup before starting the timer and pushing off for 1770 yards straight freestyle.  I had to share a lane for awhile, which kind of threw me off my rhythm, but it went okay.  I just barely missed finishing in under 30 minutes.  I'm pretty sure I used to break 29 minutes, so that means I've really slowed a lot.  I didn't try to swim fast.  I concentrated on maintaining form and keeping my stroke long, to between 16-20 per length.  If I could do a flip turn, I'd probably trim 30 seconds right there.

Good workout though.  Tiring.  I'm sleepy now, thanks to the chlorine which somehow affected my eyes this time despite the goggles.

No strength training; at least not yet. I may still do some plyometrics/calisthenics at home.  I'm due for the next day on the push up and chin up challenges.  I haven't been doing sit ups since rubbing my tailbone raw at the CrossFit class week ago from last Saturday.

This is my last week of weight/fat fixation.  I'd really like to be under 143 by next Monday morning.  Heck, I'd like to be a lean 140 and 13-14% body fat, but that ain't gonna  happen.  142-ish and 15% would be a good foundation for starting the run training in earnest.  I've been getting lax, especially with the late night snacking.  Not that the snacks have been bad, but it's just extra unnecessary calories.  I'll need them later, I'm sure.  But not while I'm trying to trim a little more fat from around the torso.

Tomorrow: 1-hour run at around 8:30 pace. That should make for just a little over 7 miles.  Sure wish I could find my HR monitor watch.  It's been MIA for over a month now.  I'm afraid I might have lost it.
