No Run Saturday

I'm up early, which is a shocker.

Joan and I went to Dave's birthday party yesterday evening, staying longer than Joan had planned. We didn't stay late though. It started up around 5:30 and Joan thought we'd just stay for the eats and then bid our farewell. We didn't know anyone else there and that crew can drink pretty hard, so Joan didn't want to hang around too long.

We wound up leaving around 9 though, probably because of me. I did have a few...more than a few actually. I counted 5 cups of Fat Tire, which is more beer than I've had in one session since...I don't know. I can't remember. One beer goes to my head these days, and yesterday I was starting out on an empty and hungry stomach.

I didn't get ripped (as they say), but I WAS sedated. Joan drove home since she was the designated teetotaler.

This morning, though, I'm awake early and fresh. No lingering aftershocks. I've already had a bowl of oatmeal, and am waiting just a little while longer before rattling around the downstairs to begin my household chores. I've got to get in the backyard and mow; and I want to get all that done before we have to leave to take Bailey to rehearsal at 10, because I then want to drive out to El Cajon to finally check out the Lexus and the Volvo.

As much as I want to, I will not run today. It's going to be an early start tomorrow morning. I need to get down to Balboa Park by 4:30 or so, which means leaving the house by 4AM. The race requires all participants to take the shuttle buses from Balboa Park out to Cabrillo Point, and the last bus leaves at 6. Race start is at 7. I should be done at 9.

I've done a good job of eating this week, I think. I balanced my nutrients well and ran neither a calorie surplus or deficit. I'm at my optimal weight and, except for the excess carbs from last night's beer, I think I've fueled myself well in preparation for Sunday.

I do need all the help I can get since my legs are so out of condition. Except for the uphill run at the end, the course itself is conducive to PRs. I won't be shooting for that though. 1:50:00 or thereabouts would be fine. And I'll not even moan about if it I'm slower than that (unless I fail to break 2 hours...then I might moan). I'm hoping for a cool overcast like it is today; at least until 9AM.

Need to get to bed early tonight.
