No sooner do I "lay down the law" and make a vow...then I go break it.
I did manage to get a quick-ish workout in, planning to just do the elliptical or about 15-20 minutes in the pool and a few reps for the upper body. Instead -- and maybe because my routine was upset when my glasses frame came apart AGAIN and I spent 10 minutes trying to find the tiny screw and repair it, all without the help of the glasses I need to see detail -- I wound up first giving the chin up max test a go again. I managed to get 14 this time; one better than yesterday. Amazing what a difference just one extra rep makes in my confidence. I'm still going to repeat the past week this week, but I felt so much better today than I did yesterday.
Same went with the elliptical. I did 20 minutes and felt a ton more energetic than I did yesterday on the AMT. When I was done, instead of getting on the weights, I felt inspired to give the treadmill a good working over. I know I had promised to stay off the running legs as much as possible for the next couple of weeks, but I rationalized that the "calf heart attack" thing doesn't rear its ugly head until I've been running for over 30 minutes or more. All I wanted to do was give a treadmill 5K a try. Robert D.'s been steadily knocking off big chunks of time off of his performance. I've been stagnant, not even trying to improve my 5K speed while I baby the calf.
Well, not today. I wasn't going to go full tilt, but I did want to see if I was still able to meet my old benchmark. I wound up recording a 21:30 time. I was pretty exhausted at the end, but not totally spent. I know I left a little on the table and lost the time at the start when I began too slowly to really challenge 21 minutes. But I was pretty happy with the effort and the exertion. I'm still a little fired up right now as I can feel my body temp still running hot, almost 45 minutes after the run now. And at no time did the calf bother me.
I'm definitely doing push ups and sit ups with Quin this afternoon, and we might take a walk up to the Commons. Maybe the optometrist's office will still be open and they can mend my frames.
