This Blog Has No Title (Just Words and a Tune)

“Bootcamp” this morning. Treadmill mid-afternoon. Feeling good.

Today was the 5th of 8 early AM workout sessions with Chris Montoya. I was a minute late and had to jump right into the exercises without much warmup. Once I got revved up, I did okay. It’s sneaky though. I always feel like it wasn't too hard when its over, but after sitting at my desk for a couple of hours, I start to feel the stiffness set in. Today’s routine was more leg intensive, so I expected to have a more difficult run, like I did last week.

I actually had a pretty decent run. I got over to the gym in the late afternoon and eased my way into the planned pace with 2 miles of less-than-race pace jogging, with a little incline play along the way. Then, I ramped up the tempo a bit and start to work my HR up toward the threshold region and felt the fatigue in the hips and legs kind of melt away. I was breathing hard and sweating heavily, but I felt good. I thought about bumping the pace up a little more, but then thought it better to try to keep HR < 150. The only pressing tempo I wound up doing was during the final mile, I’d push the pace to 7-minute/mile for a tenth of a mile and then recovery for a tenth at between 8:30 and 9:00. I was able to get six of those in before my time was up.

I managed about 5.5 miles all told, including warm up and cool down.

Today was also the first official day of a 6-week effort to concentrate my diet on particular heart-healthy fats and fibers. So far, I’ve managed to hit 7 of 9 targets and gotten a good start on my fat-reduction calorie deficit target. Not sure what we’ll do for dinner tonight, but I MUST lay off the cookies and brownies. Don’t screw this up, Bob!
