Back To It

I finally started to feel like I was missing my daily run yesterday.  Monday through Thursday, I was perfectly fine with not running.  I heard from Robert D. -- even talked with him on the phone yesterday for the first time -- and he was running briskly on Tuesday.  I question the wisdom of that, but then what do I know?  I'd just be parroting back what  I've read.

My leg weariness gradually abated, but the deep-seated fatigue all over was still there all week.  It was good that I had the JLWG to attend and occupy my day, else I might have convinced myself to do hit the gym.  But I think I needed the several days off.  I'm due to begin the bootcamp training bright and early Monday morning, and I hope not to struggle through that due to the leftover lag from the marathon.

I put my running shoes back on this morning and went out for a light 3-mile jog on my old neighborhood loop.  My legs felt weird at first.  Yes, even after six days, there was still some residual soreness from the 26.2.  The cobwebs shook out after the early hill on 4S Pkwy, and I ran a comfortable 8:30 pace all the way.  I got a little fast going by Del Norte HS and so worked on slowing my turnover and shortening my stride.  Funny, though, how when I come upon another runner or walker, I almost subconsciously pick it up.  What is that?  Ego?

I wore the K-Ona's and will wear them from now on, unless they start to show signs of not being good for me.  I'll save the old ratty Sauconeys for trail runs.  I'm really intrigued by the Brooks Green Silence shoe and might give those a test run when I have an extra $100 to spend.

Running-wise, I intend to take the next couple of weeks easy.  The Scripps Ranch 10K is coming up on the 4th.  I really want to run it this year.  The timing may not be right, but I'd sure like to beat 46 minutes and check off another 2010 goal.

I'm investigating trainer options, like WC Road Runners.  Christy's put me in touch with Art Morelli.  It'd be nice if his services are reasonably priced, but I'm guessing individual coaching is going to be out of my comfort zone, price-wise.  I'm encouraged to know I can tap the guys at Laces for some help, and they've got a Wednesday-evening group building.
