Short, light run on Maranatha's track this morning, even though I got the date wrong and open track isn't until next Friday. I'm still going to run Lake Miramar this afternoon, weather permitting. I just wanted to post something now before heading to work.
Did 3.5 miles, wearing the old Oregon waffle racing flats. I wanted to give them a try on the spongy track. 7:55 to 8:00 minute-mile pace and felt very loose and comfortable. I really wanted to get a feel for my form at that speed. Toward the end, I set my camera down on the track to capture myself running by. What a surprise. I feel fluid and smooth, but when I see myself, I'm surprised by the amount of toe-up and over stride I'm doing, how choppy my arm swing is...and am I really that bowlegged? I can really see my foot flop, too. The toe waggles all over the place.
Crazy.
Later this same day: Dropped Bailey off at ballet, and Quin and I made a circuit around Lake Miramar: counterclockwise this time. I practiced my POSE form, specifically trying to keep my toe down and avoiding over-striding.
I wonder how accurate the 1/4 mile posts are, because the first 2 miles had me clocked at 1:55 a quarter, even though I swear I was going slowly. My 3 wound up being an 8:15 pace, even though I didn't feel like I was running any differently. I did a quick pace for the next mile and half, something closer to 7:30 but I don't know for sure since I had stopped timing at that point. I had Quin try to capture some running video for later analysis to see if my form was dropping off with fatigue. We need to work with Quin on his camera work. Too shaky.
So with that easy run, that makes for 8.5 miles today over two sessions, and I feel really good. I'll do some stretching tonight and tomorrow, and make sure I eat well and get plenty of rest. I'm going to take Quin with me over to the Expo, pick up my race packet, and see if I can get him a spaghetti dinner.
Looks like we're in for a nice weekend.
