I picked this weekend to "rehearse" the schedule planned for that Carlsbad 5000 "All Day 25K," which involves running in five of the open divisional 5K events on the morning of April 11th. I've signed up for that as a part of my preparation for the San Diego Rock 'n Roll Marathon. The All Day 25K is still seven weeks away. I just wanted an endurance/tempo workout this weekend to break up the weekly long runs just a little.
What I'm wondering is whether or not to do this today or wait until tomorrow. I might encounter rainy conditions tomorrow, and I'd rather not run in that. It rained last night, so it's wet but presently clear. Today would make sense, except that I ran a rather hard 10K yesterday, so is it wise to press with this plan today or should I rest? I AM feeling the effects of yesterday.
I just don't know.
I think this'll be a living blog entry and I'll update it as the morning progresses.
The plan here is to mimic the schedule of the Carlsbad 5000. I'm going to use a loop around the park for my course: 5 and a half laps around the path is 3.1 miles, ending at the concession stand.
Start
7:10 Run #1: Done...22:26 on wet park loop. Slippery. Need to pick another course.
8:00 Run #2: Done...23:19 Ivy Gate out and back. Better course.
9:25 Run #3: Done...23:23 4S 5K Loop. Hills
10:20 Run #4: Done...23:45 dry park loop. Tired.
11:30 Run #5: Done...24:52 Ivy Gate again.
Other trivial data;
Starting weight: 144.0
Weight after Run #1: 143.5
Drank 8 oz. water before Run #2. (B.M.)
Weight before Run #2: 144.0
Weight after Run #2: 143.0
Drank 16 oz. water, 8 oz acai smoothie, and ate 1/2 banana, 2 slices toast and 2 veggie sausage patties
Weight before Run #3: 144.0
Weight after Run #3:143.5
Drank 12 oz. water, 1 protein energy bar (280C, 20g protein)
Weight before Run #4: 144.5
Weight after Run #4:143.0
Drank 16 oz. water and apple
Weight before Run #5: 144.5
Weight after Run #5: 143.0
No electrolyte sports drink, so drank 16 oz and ate some salty pretzels.
Weight at conclusion: 144.0 Good; right where I began.
Alternated shoes for each run. Newer pair on #1, #3 and #5. Old faithfuls on #2 and #4.
Park laps on #4 were dryer, but I was too fatigued to challenge my run #1 time. Splits, as I remember them:
Lap 1 - 4:15 (4:15)
Lap 2 - 4: 20 (8:35)
Lap 3 - 4:15 (12:50)
Lap 4: 4:20 (17:10)
Lap 5: 4:20 (21:30)
last fractional: 2:15 (23:45)
Average pace on each run:
#1: 7:14 minute/mile
#2: 7:31 minute/mile
#3: 7:33 minute/mile
#4: 7:40 minute/mile
#5: 8:01 minute/mile
Total time: 25K (15.5 miles) in 1:57:45...would have been good for 38th place in the 2009 All Day 25K.
