I had planned on swimming and doing some strength work today, but after coming up short yesterday, I figured I needed more rest and recovery. I also don't have my LA Fitness membership anymore so I would have had to sneak into the gym to get a weekend swim/weights session in. Instead, I spent the day watching the Chargers defeat the Redskins, Duke beat Clemson, stretching out and packing away the Christmas decorations and paraphernalia.
I can't decide if it's my age or not, but it sure seems like after any big run day I'm sore and fatigued for a whole day afterwards. I've got 3 weeks left to prepare for the Carlsbad half. The 3rd week is scheduled for tapering, so that leaves this week and next to get whatever conditioning work in that I need. I need some confidence boosts.
I haven't reviewed the week's plan, but I think tomorrow will be some interval work, Wednesday will be a 10K and Friday a light Fartlek run followed on the weekend by another attempt at a 10-12 miler, but this time taking care to water up, sleep up and approach the run just like I would if it were race day. It'll be my last chance to prove to myself that I'm ready for a 13-miler at 8:30-8:45 pace.
